We have not been able to find anything about this microphone or the manufacturer Kalinowsky u. Morell. (We will abbreviate that to Ku.M)
The amplifier circuit contains a single REN904 vacuum tube - that tube was introduced by Telefunken in 1929 and remained in production until about 1953. However, much better tubes became available very quickly, and it seems unlikely that an outdated tube in an application that requires the lowest possible noise.
The form of the microphone looks to be inspired by the Neumann CMV3, which was introduced in 1932. Radiomuseum show a few pictures of a similar microphone and date it to around 1948. Their microphone has an EF12 tube, which was introduced in 1939, which tells us that Ku.M did change to a better tube when the opportunity came along.
As such, we estimate that our Kalinowsky u. Morell microphone was produced in the mid 1930s
Interesting fact - this is the only microphone in the MoMics collection that shares a name with a mushroom.
